Service/Fellowship

Hey team, we are looking at "fellowship" this coming week and we looked at "service" this past week. The challenge for us was to go serve downtown at the shelter, and I appreciated everyone that could make it. I understand we couldn't all do it. The main thing is to begin to think about where and how we can serve in our day-to-day lives. We at church get obsessed with evangelism and sharing the gospel, but I would challenge you to go and serve someone and see if they refuse to listen to stories about Jesus' love.

This coming week we will be looking at fellowship. Of all the topics we have covered with church, I believe this might be the easiest to practice but the hardest to perfect. Fellowship is about love and vulnerability. How can we better practice fellowship? How can we find ways to fellowship together?

As always, I love Refuge and couldn't be happier with what God is doing among us.

  1. Here are some note from Coffee Talk on Wednesday May 12, 2010.

Some concerns are spoke of about the commitment of the members of this church. Concern is raised as an example that only one member of leadership shows up for coffee talk, and in truth with exception of the first meeting, there have only been three people showing up at each meeting since.

Were speaking about the groups and if at this time it is really viable to be breaking off into different groups as hardly anyone shows up to even this open group.

The overall feeling at working the mission serving last Saturday is mixed but some found it to be a great experience while those who spent time at the mission felt slightly otherwise. For myself (Art) I chose not to go as I had spent 5 months there both as a guest and a P.C. in the program.

Refuge Service - This Friday May 14th,about 6:30p.m. We will be going to Grants to assist in painting his home. We look forward to see everyone who can come showing up.

Other Refuge thoughts. It is suggested that perhaps we can reach out to other non- profits which are non-christian to assist them with different things. Suggestions include Habitat for humanity, United way, Make a Wish, and many others. What is spoke of is something more local based. Perhaps even starting our own assistance group reaching out to those who do not get to have a voice or help. Thoughts include helping the children who are homeless in and around the Denver area.

Other ways to help with service is finding out about how to help at our local schools either by volunteering to read to children or just being a friend to a single mom with kids who could use some positive feedback and help with day to day things. Reaching out to those who could really use the help and make a positive impact in their lives and that of the families as well.

Now were winding down this evenings coffee talk, last thoughts on service are there is so much out there that we can do both on an individual basis as well as a church function, if were willing to extend our time, and knowledge to do as God would want us to do.
